Over the years, the Hall has evolved to meet the changing needs of the local community. Today, it features a flexible layout that includes a main hall, meeting rooms, kitchen, bar, and a designated ‘gathering space’. As a result, the Hall continues to serve as a vital hub for communal life on the island. The project’s main goal is to preserve and strengthen the Hall’s role at the heart of the community.
Working closely with residents, the team aims to deliver a multifunctional facility that supports a wide range of uses. It hosts social events, educational workshops, school PE sessions, ceilidh dances, theatre shows, childcare groups, and musical performances. In addition, the Hall provides a venue for weddings and other major life events, making it a truly inclusive space for all ages and interests.
During the winter months, when no other public space is available, the Hall becomes even more important for island life. It offers essential opportunities for social interaction and helps reduce feelings of isolation, a common challenge in remote communities.
Ultimately, by keeping the Hall active throughout the year, the project helps to foster a stronger sense of cohesion and belonging among residents. The revitalised Iona Village Hall stands as a testament to community spirit and collaboration.
