The Category B listed building was vacant, disused and on the Buildings at Risk register before this refurbishment. The works undertaken included major fabric repairs to the building: replacement stone, slate roofs, lead covered bell tower and paint removal from the façade. The internal alterations transformed previous council offices and chamber room into a holiday let apartment, complete with two bedrooms, en suite bathrooms, kitchen and living area.
This project is a great example of how a disused building can be brought back to life and into the public domain. An important landmark is restored and now allows visitors to come and stay in Cupar. The project was funded by an initial investment from Fife Council, with subsequent funding from Historic Environment Scotland, Cupar’s Common Good Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
