Central to this is our Narro Sustainability Group who ensure sustainability is central to how we operate and are responsible for coordinating all related activity. This includes:
- regularly updating our own Sustainability Guide & Policy to ensure all staff have clear direction
- managing our project Carbon Database and developing carbon calculation methodologies to widen their application in different sectors
- leveraging the role of building information management (BIM) software
- proactively collaborating with manufacturers and specialist disciplines to innovate new ways to reduce carbon impact
- embedding a research and data driven approach to design by participating in academic projects as industrial partners and testing new methods with contractors
- actively knowledge sharing with groups such as ICE, IStructE, UK GBC, Passivhaus Trust
- participating in major events such as COP26 and committing to the Engineers Declare Initiative
By participating in sustainability projects in local communities and regular involvement in school outreach programs, we actively promote sustainability in the built environment and directly engage with students.
We also currently work with universities to provide industry projects to 4th year engineering students. In the 2021/22 academic year, students at Strathclyde University participated in a carbon calculation study project overseen by Narro.
