Embracing the challenge of impressive spaces
We’re proud to have designed structures for dozens of ground-breaking residential properties, community spaces, visitor centres and hotels, many of which have gone on to win awards.
An inbuilt passion for innovative architecture helps us understand the impact that architects are trying to achieve. In many cases, sites chosen for dramatic views will bring challenges we relish, for example designing to accommodate a steep slope or wetland area in a remote location.
Visionary spaces often require visually minimal structures to give an illusion of not being there at all, and we have many examples of successful:
- large-scale glass walls and balustrades
- cantilevered staircases and balconies
- impressive double height circulation spaces
Creatively applying alternative shapes and materials
As well as accommodating unusual sites and spaces, we welcome the opportunity to help architects achieve safe and secure structures with a variety of shapes, or even constructed with alternative materials including:
- curved walls
- undulating roofs
- straw bale houses
- clay-based cob buildings
Building trust and committing to excellence
When working with architects, we take considerable time to understand their vision, provide detailed options, and iterate the design. We’ve earned trust in our commitment to explore every avenue to achieve a desired outcome, while balancing sustainability, longevity and cost
Our appreciation for Architectural Engineering has always encouraged by our founder, David Narro, an honorary fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) and is developed by regular study trips to view examples of excellence in our industry. We share knowledge of new techniques when tutoring students at Edinburgh Architectural College to provide understanding of structures so they can achieve bold designs.
Ability to bring a modern design solution that is aesthetically pleasing.
