Home / Bridge of Orchy Hotel
The development included the construction of three new single-storey accommodation blocks built on land adjacent to the existing hotel. Each block is set at a different level to compliment the topography of the site. The project also included the refurbishment of ancillary buildings, including an existing cottage, upgrading of the hotel’s back-of-house facilities and providing additional infrastructure for external amenities, including temporary marquees and areas for outdoor events.
The new accommodation blocks are built using Structurally Insulated Timber wall panels, supporting a timber trussed roof. Each truss varies in configuration to suit the skewed ridge line. The reinforced concrete pad foundations are trench filled to a firm bearing strata below the weak layer of peaty soil which overlays the site. The ground floor construction is designed to span between the foundations, rather than bear onto the ground, for similar reasons.
