Behind the Wall

Renowned for its good food and ale, the establishments’ popularity began to exceed the capacity available within the existing premises.

In 1999 the Directors turned to Zoo Architects to provide an imaginative design for an extension to the existing premises. The result was a two-storey steel framed structure completed a year later. The structure of the new extension is expressed in the architecture. The steel frame, the Vierendeel roof trusses and the profiled steel deck forming the soffit of the composite slabs are all exposed.

The new building provides additional seating for the customers, as well as a dance space at first floor level, a state of the art microbrewery and an external deck space for those who enjoy their beer alfresco. The main elevation is clad using green oak sourced from the forests of the Trossachs.
