Home / Sacred Heart Church
To protect and strengthen the Sacred Heart building, a major refurbishment took place. ZM Architecture led the project, with Narro providing structural and conservation engineering expertise.
Extensive repairs were carried out, including addressing rotten timbers to ensure long-term stability. Careful planning was required for removing a loadbearing partition in the Sacristy, particularly for maintaining structural integrity. The existing roof truss underwent a full review to confirm it could support additional insulation and decorative ceiling. Balustrade alterations at first-floor openings were designed to match the original detailing and preserve the building’s character.
With its heritage in mind, the project required a sensitive approach. Engineers and architects worked closely to respect the original design while improving function and longevity. Its successful completion reflects a commitment to preserving historic architecture while ensuring the church continues to serve the community for years to come.
