Scottish Design Awards 2017: Re-use of a Listed Building – Winner
Home / Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Building
The modifications included repairs to the fabric of this listed building, such as the removal and repair of numerous internal additions, with associated improvements to accessibility and internal circulation. A new five-storey passenger lift now gives access between all floors.
The central stair was reinstated as an internal focal point, with improvements to natural lighting provided by a new roof light and the removal of large areas of a supporting wall adjacent to the internal courtyard. This was the most challenging structural aspect of the project due to the sensitivity of the stairs to movement, which required careful sequencing of the works.
Within the courtyard a new multi-storey extension with a glazed façade and balcony was added, providing a breakout space and a gateway to this reinvigorated area.
We have 6 offices across the UK. We are here to support our clients wherever they need us.
