The project also involved the construction of a new garden room/office on the plot.
The extension employs a two-storey steel frame solution to create the sharp, geometric elevations. Steel stability frames were employed to create the glazed elevations to the front and rear. The extension contains a floating first floor link corridor which allows access to the existing building at which was previously entered via an external stair. The extension is clad in charcoal black, standing seam cladding to contract with the original sandstone of the existing property.
The new build garden room is formed of sheathed, load bearing, timber frame wall panels with a combination of pitched and flat roof zones used to create the pitched ceiling spaces. Steel stability frame elements were used to provide large, glazed openings into the adjacent garden space. An existing stone boundary wall was also incorporated into the rear of the building to maximise remaining garden space.
