Home / Melamar
We worked closely with the architect, Paper Igloo, to help achieve their vision for this family home. The involvement of our engineering team was essential to the successful execution of this project. We were responsible for the complete design of the external garage and for laying the structural foundations. Additionally, we worked closely with the timber frame manufacturer, providing checks and assurances throughout the construction process. This was to ensure structural integrity and adherence to Passivhaus principles.
The house, a two-storey structure, is an architectural success. Timber cladding has been complemented with zinc standing seam cladding on the roof and part of the external walls, creating a striking and contemporary finish. The core of the structure was formed using prefabricated timber cassettes, which were engineered with ply web joists. This choice of materials not only met the environmental goals of the project but also allowed for efficient off-site manufacturing and swift on-site assembly.
Eden Insulation, the timber frame designer, played a pivotal role in ensuring that the timber structure met the performance criteria necessary for Passivhaus certification. The synergy between our engineering team, the architect, and the timber frame designers was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition. This helped ensure both aesthetic beauty and long-term sustainability.
By meeting the strict Passivhaus standards, Melamar exemplifies how innovative design, expert engineering, and meticulous construction can create a living space that is not only visually appealing but also highly energy-efficient. The result is a home that offers exceptional thermal performance, reduced energy consumption, and a modern, striking design that sits harmoniously in its environment.
