Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre

The centre provides support, comfort, counselling and practical advice to those diagnosed with cancer.

The centre was constructed in two phases, phase one being completed in 1996 and phase two in 2001. The first phase involved the conversion of a mid-19th century stable block. Phase two became a necessity following the success of the centre and was constructed as a steel framed extension to the original stable block.

Richard Murphy Architects have succeeded in designing a building which is a departure from the institutional nature of most health service properties. Despite the complexity of the design, the engineering is consciously understated and low key to maintain the feeling of domesticity created by the Architect.
