Project overview

The refurbishment of the Category B Listed Kirriemuir Parish Church required a sensitive and carefully coordinated structural engineering approach.

With an overall project cost of £450,000, the works centred on upgrading the existing fabric while introducing new architectural elements that would enhance the functionality and welcome of the historic building.

Structurally, the key intervention was the creation of two new sanctuary spaces within the transept. This required alterations to the internal layout and the discreet integration of new structural supports without compromising the integrity of the listed structure. At the main entrance, a new glazed vestibule was introduced to improve accessibility and environmental performance. This element relied on a lightweight steel frame, designed to support the glazing system while minimising impact on the historic masonry.

Throughout the project, remedial works were undertaken to bring the church in line with modern standards. This included targeted stone repairs to address weathering and ensure long term stability of the existing walls.

The completed works provide an improved, flexible interior while respecting and preserving the character of the original church.
