Fir Tree House

The new extension features a double cantilever corner which was built over the location of an existing well.  The extension is timber framed with a steel framed element on the cantilevered corner. A feature steel stair was installed to give the effect of folded plate treads. The structure was formed from plate steel treads and a stringer formed in welded steel box sections.

The stair featured a frameless glass balustrade that was designed by us due to the small depth of the base channel requested by the architect. In order for the client to avoid applying an unaesthetically pleasing fire-retardant, we were responsible for the calculations to prove the existing timber structure could withstand a 30-minute duration fire.
