Dundreggan Rewilding Centre

This project brought the Trees for Life Charity’s vision to life by creating a Rewilding Centre at Dundreggan, its Glenmoriston estate. The centre offers educational and visitor facilities, enabling people to explore, enjoy, and learn about forest restoration and rewilding.

Moreover, it highlights the natural and Gaelic cultural heritage of the Scottish Highlands. The facility features an orientation space, café/restaurant, multi-use lecture and classroom areas, a library, a ‘story cave’, an adventure playground, and a dipping pond.

The L-shaped building blends with the landscape while maximising scenic views. Built from Scottish larch, it harnesses solar energy. Timber technology and circular economy research shaped the structure and envelope.

Inspired by the forest canopy, the sculpted roof stands out. Scottish larch clads the walls, while ‘tree trunk’ colonnades frame the outdoor spaces. Inside, varied timber finishes and natural light enhance the contrast between active and quiet areas.
