RIAS 2025 – Winner
Home / Aldourie Estate – Walled Garden
The Aldourie Walled Garden project focused on enhancing an existing kitchen garden. A new walled garden was meticulously constructed, featuring a pavilion, potting shed, gardener’s cottage, and a towering boundary wall.
Embracing predominantly traditional methods and materials seldom seen in modern construction, a magnificent garden and its accompanying outbuildings were fashioned to seamlessly integrate with the ambiance and architecture of the historic castle and estate. The pavilion was crowned with a hand-cut ogee roof adorned with lead details and an oak finial, while the interior boasted hand-hewn Chestnut lath and plaster walls and ceiling. Throughout, the floors were adorned with large, reclaimed Caithness flagstones, adding to the timeless allure of the space.
