Home / Aldourie Estate – Steading

Project overview

The Aldourie Steading project involved the meticulous restoration and transformation of a disused building.

The steading’s stonework underwent careful restoration, and a new roof was installed, with the original ceiling ties repurposed. Original timber doors were refurbished, rough plaster walls retained their weathered charm, and stonework was left exposed, lending the structure a rustic ambiance.

Emphasising the reuse and preservation of original materials, sandstone floors were reinstated in their original layout, timber walls were painstakingly refurbished, and reclaimed stone was incorporated into the design. Despite its reliance on traditional materials and aesthetics, the building exudes a distinctly contemporary vibe. Modern fire partitions discreetly blend into the rustic surroundings, timber staircases are reinforced with steel, and underfloor heating, powered by the estate’s biomass plant, ensures comfort and sustainability.

Traditional methods of construction and exceptionally high attention to every detail was adopted throughout the project.
