RIAS 2025 – Winner
Home / Aldourie Estate – Home Farm
At the heart of the endeavour were three newly constructed traditional barns.
These structures were crafted using time-honoured techniques, featuring arched oak frames, Lazonby saddle stones, handmade bricks, and linings made from Douglas Fir sourced and processed on the estate. The barn floors were paved with granite setts salvaged from the historic streets of Edinburgh.
Drawing inspiration from the prevalent stone and larch-clad structures with corrugated roofs found throughout the Highlands, the design of the new barns and estate maintenance office was carefully influenced. The resulting buildings harmoniously blend into their surroundings, reflecting the timeless charm of the region.
