Aldourie Estate – Biomass Energy Building

By replacing an earlier system, the new building saves an estimated 48 tonnes of CO₂ saved per annum. Construction and materials reflect the local Highlands vernacular, by making use of local rubble stone, corrugated iron, larch boards, and tree trunks cut from the surrounding woodland – in some cases within metres of the building.

The new structure sits close to other working buildings including the restored home farm and sawmill and appears as a picturesque building in the landscape. The design of the Biomass Building compliments the restoration of a Victorian-era sawmill.
