Our Glasgow Team is absolutely delighted to have welcomed back Melissa Allison as a Graduate Engineer.
We’re extremely proud of Melissa’s development into a fully fledged engineer. She originally joined us for a week of work experience during her 4th year at secondary school. At that point Melissa had already been considering an engineering career path, and proactively approached us. During this week, she shadowed our engineers, carried out basic calculations, and attended supervised secure site visits. She enjoyed the experience so much that she decided that engineering was definitely the right career for her!
Having begun her degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Glasgow, she returned to us in 2022 at the end of her third year for a summer placement. In 2023 then, she came back to us again following the end of fourth year.
During her fifth and final year, Melissa continued working in our Glasgow office part time while completing her Masters project. This project, a comparative analysis of the carbon emissions of the current UK building regulations and Passivhaus standards, involved her using Narro projects to carry out whole life carbon analysis and noting the differences in emissions at each stage between the different regulations.
After successfully completing her project, we’re very proud to say that Melissa graduated with her MEng this summer.
Ben Adam, Narro Managing Director, commented “It’s been brilliant to see Melissa develop into a fantastic engineer. She’s became an integral part of the Glasgow team. I’m really passionate about doing all we can as a Practice to encourage more young people into STEM careers. We’re really proud to offer those work experience and internship opportunities, and take part in outreach opportunities whenever we can. Melissa is a fantastic example of someone taking full advantage of those opportunities, and she’s already been a huge asset to the team.”
He continued, “We’re all so proud of Melissa and delighted that she chose to stick with Narro. We’re looking forward to supporting her continued development, and I’m sure she’s got a very bright future ahead of her.”
Melissa said, “I’ve had a great time working with Narro and their support has been amazing, from that first week of work experience all the way through my studies. I’m looking forward to learning even more from the team in Glasgow and getting the chance to work on some fantastic projects.”
Nurturing the next generation of engineering talent is a key priority of our teams. Each year we offer full time Graduate Engineering positions, as well as paid summer internships for engineering students.
