Narro Associates is proud to announce that Ian Downie, Associate Director, has achieved the Conservation Accreditation Register of Engineers (CARE), a prestigious recognition awarded by the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers.
Ian’s fantastic achievement makes Narro Associates the only engineering consultancy in Scotland with five CARE-accredited engineers, a distinction that places the firm equal to the highest number of CARE engineers in any single company across the UK.
What is CARE?
The Conservation Accreditation Register for Engineers (CARE) identifies civil and structural engineers who are highly skilled in the conservation of historic structures and sites. CARE-accredited engineers undergo a rigorous assessment to demonstrate their deep understanding of traditional materials, construction methods, and conservation philosophy. This expertise ensures that interventions on heritage buildings are sympathetic, sustainable, and cause minimal disruption to historic fabric
Alongside Ian, Narro’s CARE-accredited team includes David Narro, Ben Adam, Steve Wood, and Lily Erskine. This reinforces the company’s unrivalled expertise in the conservation and restoration of historic structures.
Ian Downie commented: “I’m delighted to achieve CARE accreditation. Working with historic structures is a privilege and a challenge, and this recognition reflects my commitment to safeguarding our built heritage while delivering practical, sustainable engineering solutions.”
Narro Associates Managing Director, and fellow CARE engineer, Ben Adam said: “Having five CARE-accredited engineers is a remarkable achievement and a demonstration of our dedication to heritage conservation. It means clients can trust us to deliver the highest standards of expertise for projects that protect and celebrate our historic buildings.”
